Snow Day / Go Day
The first snow day in a while… Here we are… I woke up with a start, stress dreaming and hyper aware that I am carrying a weird dread / guilt combo within today. Lately, I’m having trouble finding my intrinsic motivation - the motivation that wakes me up in the wee hours to create, respond, improve, exceed expectations, and check off all the pesky “to-do’s” that get things done. It’s ok. I am disciplined enough to carry on based on habit and pattern for a while… but, where it could it have gone? And why?
Begin Again.
Tune up the instrument.
As I write these words, the stress and anxiety I was feeling is beginning to loosen, melt, and break off in chunks. I expect to watch it continue breaking up as it floats downstream, away from me. I already did 5+ mins of movement to get my body in gear after a deliberately long sleep. Now, I will sit, meditate, and focus on the internal landscape and touch the universal.
The new year is a tender time. There’s pressure from all sides to resolve to be better than ever before! And, lose ten pounds! And, (insert major life goal here)! This year, some of my beloveds are facing themselves in brutiful ways: re-locating, new jobs, asking for help (finally), and taking care of long-festering financial concerns (yay!). I’m the glue, support, guide, and listening ears for them. Today, I woke up feeling squeezed from all sides.
I dove into the Moving Mediation practice, et voila! No magic fixes here, but a wondrous release of Big Feelings, detachment from that which I cannot change, noticing what is mine to do and what is not, and clarity on the next right thing for my day - in alignment with my true, deeper self. Next right things include:
Writing my menu of movement snacks for the week
Sending the agenda for a virtual team meeting with a corporate client
Preparing materials for said meeting
That’s it for now.
#hothubby is taking the kids sledding (perfect timing) so the house will be quiet for me to facilitate the meeting. I will join the kids for round two of sledding this afternoon - one sledding bout is enough for me this day!
For any of you curious about meditation, here’s a podcast interview that sheds some light on the how’s, why’s, and what’s from Ten Percent Happier, shared by Ted Radio Hour.

Wishing you a day full of next right things!
