It hasn’t snowed in a significant way in a couple of years. Right? Is that even true? Covid brain tells me that is true, but Covid brain is a liar.
(does minor internet research)
According to the National Weather Service, it’s true. We haven’t had a significant snow event in several years.
We were caught completely unprepared as a family. Meaning, our kids have no snow gear: boots, waterproof pants, waterproof gloves, etc. They grow out of it all every year or so, and we don’t go skiing; it doesn’t make sense to invest in a lot of gear for a peekaboo winter. Except when it does! Oy!
We usually (in the before times) get gear from thrift stores or hand-me-overs from friends. It looks like I’ll be scouring the options next week after all the folx who buy new gear do just that… then, I’m hoping (probably like thousands of others) to swoop in like batwoman and get great new-to-us gear for my bb’s who froze their adorable asses off yesterday.
Gear or no - we hiked, sledded, walked about, threw the snowballs, and each other. We played. We played! It was glorious.
Maybe the point is just that… there is no ready. Just get to it. Go play while the snow is here!
What is the snow in your world? You know, the fleeting opportunity that is here today, but not promised for tomorrow?
What’s stopping you?
Go play anyway.
Just go.
Play.
that's some good advice and great perspective. xo
